Tierre Group is close to the environment not only in promoting the advantages of products such as water purifiers, which favour less use of plastic, but also in the selection of its partners, who are particularly focused on these issues.
Today we would like to talk about the Kuehne + Nagel’s NetZeroCarbon initiative, being Kuehne + Nagel the company which organizes most of our import shipments by seae.

Kuehne + Nagel: zero carbon dioxide emissions from 2020

AStarting from January 2020, all carbon dioxide emissions related to its LCL shipments are offset directly by Kuehne + Nagel, with zero impact on the environment.
The initiative is an important awareness for the company: the logistics industry contributes 8% to global CO2 emissions and Kuehne + Nagel, as an industry leader, is committed to reducing its contribution to ensure a future for generations to come.
This commitment by Kuehne + Nagel is an important and responsible choice, which will be an inspiration for many other companies around the world.

The goal of the NetZeroCarbon program

The Kuehne + Nagel’s goal is ambitious: neutralizing the CO2 emissions associated with the transport services offered to its customers by 2030.
The first step was the direct offsetting of CO2 emissions from all the groups maritime shipments, but Kuehne + Nagel does not stop there: its goal can only be achieved by cooperating with all the companies involved in the supply chain.
In fact, Kuehne + Nagel allows its customers to evaluate the eco-sustainability of a transport service through big data and predictive analytics, the basis for digital solutions that allow the identification of routes and ways of transport aimed at reducing emissions.

Visibility

First of all, it is essential to know the extent of your CO2 contribution in all stages of the supply chain. For this reason, Kuehne + Nagel allows its customers to obtain reliable information on their emissions thanks to certified calculation methodologies.
SeaExplorer is the application dedicated to maritime transport services, able to support the customer in identifying and planning their transport services according to the criteria of eco-sustainability.

Reduction of the environmental impact

Kuehne + Nagel’s multi-year plan includes multiple initiatives aimed at reducing the environmental impact:
– The implementation of advanced technologies relating to the production of energy through photovoltaic panels and the disposal of waste in all its logistics centres.
– The use of renewable energy.
– A continuous training program to maintain and strengthen the environmental awareness of employees.
– The gradual replacement of business travel with videoconferencing.
– Periodic checks of emissions at its offices

Compensation

Offsetting carbon dioxide emissions is a certified process that allows companies and individuals to offset those CO2 emissions that, to date, cannot be eliminated.
These emissions are offset by Kuehne + Nagel by contributing to environmental projects related to reforestation, with the aim of reducing greenhouse gas emissions globally.
One hectare of forest is able to release 15-30 tons of oxygen per year and retain up to 10.6 tons of CO2. This CO2 reservoir needs to be protected by investing in safeguarding natural ecosystems such as forests, grasslands and drainage systems

In conclusion

Kuehne + Nagel’s neutralization plan is based on a mix of reduction and compensation. In addition to taking advantage of transparency regarding CO2 emissions data, the company operates on the basis of a general environmental protection program that provides for the reduction of electricity and water consumption, as well as the recycling of waste.
At Tierre Group, being always focused on the environmental issues, we are proud to give our contribution to this important and ambitious project.
